Yamaha MT-07 Exhaust Upgrades: Best Slip-On and Full Systems
The Yamaha MT-07 (also sold as the FZ-07 in North America) is one of the best-selling middleweights in Europe, and the aftermarket exhaust market reflects that. The 689cc parallel-twin is tuned for midrange torque and a wide, accessible powerband — but the stock exhaust system is deliberately muffled to meet Euro 4 and Euro 5 noise limits. An aftermarket slip-on transforms the character of the bike without touching anything else.
This guide covers the best exhaust options for the MT-07 across all generations, with specific fitment notes by model year.
MT-07 Generations and Exhaust Compatibility
- 2014-2017 (first generation): Standard 689cc engine, single right-side exhaust exit, 47mm link pipe diameter. Wide aftermarket availability.
- 2018-2020 (second generation): Minor updates, same exhaust routing. Most 2014-2017 systems are compatible — confirm per product listing.
- 2021+ (Euro 5): Updated engine with two lambda sensors in the link pipe. Compatible with Euro 5 specific slip-ons only — NOT compatible with earlier exhausts. Always verify by year.
Best Exhaust Options for the MT-07
GPR Albus Evo4 — Best All-Rounder
The GPR Albus Evo4 is the most popular choice for the MT-07. EC homologated, stainless steel canister with white carbon finish, and an excellent sound improvement over stock. The parallel-twin exhaust note becomes noticeably deeper and more present without becoming anti-social.
Available for 2014-2020 and 2021+ (Euro 5 specific variant). Weight saving: approximately 2.1kg versus stock.
GPR Furore Evo4
More volume than the Albus, with a rawer character. Popular for riders who prioritise sound over road-legal compliance. Available with db-killer for road use.
Exan Carbon X-Black
Exan's carbon-fibre bodied slip-on for the MT-07 is a premium visual upgrade over the GPR options. The carbon weave contrasts well against the MT-07's angular styling. Sound is pronounced and specifically mid-range focused — the twin's character at low revs is transformed.
MassMoto
Budget-friendly option in stainless steel. Good build quality for everyday use, less refined than GPR or Exan but solid value for a first upgrade.
Installation
All MT-07 slip-on installations follow the same process: remove the stock muffler by undoing the bracket bolt at the grab rail mount and the clamp at the link pipe joint. Reverse for the aftermarket unit. Total time: 20-30 minutes. No remapping required for slip-ons.
For 2021+ Euro 5 models, the link pipe lambda sensor must remain in the stock link pipe. This is only relevant for full system installations — slip-ons leave the link pipe in place.
