The Kawasaki Z900 and Z650 are two of the most popular inline-four naked bikes in Europe, and both respond exceptionally well to an aftermarket exhaust upgrade. Kawasaki's stock exhaust systems are heavily restricted for Euro compliance — remove them and the engine's true character emerges, particularly on the Z900 where the 948cc four-cylinder has genuine grunt across the rev range.

Z900 vs Z650: Key Differences Affecting Exhaust Choice

The Z900 and Z650 use different exhaust configurations despite their similar styling:

  • Z900: 948cc inline-four, 4-into-1 headers feeding a single right-side muffler. 2017 onwards. The most popular fitment for aftermarket exhaust on the Z-series.
  • Z650: 649cc parallel-twin, 2-into-1 headers, single right-side muffler. 2017 onwards. The twin has a distinct character from the four — different sound profile but equally rewarding with the right exhaust.

These two bikes do NOT share exhaust systems — fitment is specific to each model.

Best Exhaust Options for the Z900

GPR M3 Inox — Most Popular Choice

The GPR M3 Inox for the Kawasaki Z900 is a stainless steel slip-on that gives the inline-four a dramatically more present exhaust note. The four-cylinder gains a sharp, crisp top-end character with a pronounced overrun pop. EC homologated, road-legal, and available for 2017+ models.

GPR Albus Evo4

White carbon finish over stainless body. Slightly more refined character than the M3 — deeper rather than sharp. Popular choice for riders who want the sound improvement with a cleaner visual look.

Exan Carbon X-Black

Exan's carbon-bodied slip-on for the Z900 is a premium visual and acoustic upgrade. The carbon weave contrasts with the Z900's angular green bodywork. Sound is noticeably more aggressive than GPR — best for spirited road riders.

Best Exhaust Options for the Z650

The Z650 twin benefits from a quality slip-on in a different way to the four. The parallel-twin's exhaust note becomes deeper and more resonant with an aftermarket muffler, losing the stifled quality of the stock system.
