Yamaha TMAX 530 and TMAX 560 Exhaust Guide
Upgrade Your TMAX Exhaust System
The Yamaha TMAX 530 and TMAX 560 are among the most performance-oriented maxi-scooters on the road. Whether you own the 530 (2012–2019) or the revised 560 (2020 onwards), upgrading the exhaust is one of the most effective ways to improve throttle response, reduce weight, and give your TMAX a more aggressive sound.
Slip-On vs Full System
For most TMAX riders, a slip-on exhaust is the ideal upgrade. It replaces the standard silencer while retaining the factory mid-pipe and headers. Installation takes under an hour with basic tools — remove the two mounting bolts, disconnect the OEM can, slide on the new silencer and tighten. No remapping is required for a slip-on, though an aftermarket ECU tune will unlock further gains.
A full exhaust system replaces the entire exhaust from the headers back. This offers the greatest performance improvement on both the TMAX 530 and 560 but requires more installation time and may need a fuel controller or ECU remap.
GPR Exhausts for the TMAX
At Euro Motards, our primary brand for TMAX exhaust systems is GPR. GPR manufacture exhaust systems specifically designed for the TMAX 530 and TMAX 560 across model years, ensuring correct fitment without modification. GPR options include stainless steel and carbon fibre end cans, providing a choice between durability and a premium finish.
Sound and UK Road Legality
One of the most important considerations for UK commuters is road legality. On public roads in the UK, your exhaust must meet the noise limits set for your vehicle's type approval — typically 77–80 dB(A). Many aftermarket exhausts are supplied with a db killer (noise insert) which, when fitted, keeps the sound within legal limits and allows you to pass your MOT.
Removing the db killer is popular on track or for off-road use, but riding without it on a public road is an offence and will result in an MOT failure. Always confirm the exhaust you choose is supplied with a db killer if it is not already type-approved (e2 marked).
Year-Specific Fitment
- TMAX 530 (2012–2016, SJ06) — check compatibility with the 530 pre-2017 header layout
- TMAX 530 DX/SX (2017–2019) — updated frame mounts; verify fitment for this generation
- TMAX 560 (2020–present) — revised engine casing; TMAX 560-specific exhausts required
Performance Benefits
A well-chosen aftermarket exhaust on the TMAX 530 or 560 typically delivers 1–3 bhp gains on a slip-on and up to 6–8 bhp on a full system with tuning. Weight savings of 1–3 kg over the OEM unit also improve handling feel, particularly in urban commuting where the TMAX excels.
