Why Upgrade Your Honda PCX Exhaust?

The Honda PCX 125 and PCX 150 are two of the UK's best-selling commuter scooters. Efficient, reliable, and easy to ride, the PCX is a natural choice for daily use — but the standard exhaust is tuned for economy over character. An aftermarket exhaust upgrade can sharpen throttle response, reduce weight, and give the PCX a more satisfying sound without sacrificing practicality.

Slip-On Exhausts for the PCX

The most practical upgrade for a PCX commuter is a slip-on silencer. This replaces the OEM end can while leaving the headers and mid-pipe in place. Installation is straightforward: support the exhaust, remove the clamp bolt and mounting bracket bolt, slide off the OEM silencer, and fit the new unit. Most slip-ons for the PCX 125 take 30–45 minutes to fit with basic spanners.

No ECU remapping is needed for a slip-on on a standard PCX 125 or PCX 150, making it a plug-and-play upgrade for commuters.

UK Road Legality and MOT

For UK commuters, road legality is essential. A PCX 125 used on public roads must have an exhaust that meets noise type approval standards. When purchasing an aftermarket exhaust for your PCX, ensure it is either e2/e-marked (EU type approved) or supplied with a db killer insert to keep sound levels within legal limits.

Riding without a db killer or with an unapproved exhaust will result in an MOT failure and could attract a roadside fine. Always fit the db killer for commuting use — it still sounds noticeably better than stock.

Sound and Performance Gains

On a 125cc scooter, performance gains from an exhaust alone are modest — expect improved mid-range response and a slightly freer rev. The real benefit on the PCX is the weight saving (often 0.5–1.5 kg) and the improved exhaust note, which makes the PCX feel more engaging to ride day to day.
